The leadership of the ‘Let My Vote Count Alliance’ have insisted that they will keep pursuing their objective of sensitizing Ghanaians to the validity of the petition brought before the Supreme Court by presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo, his running mate and his party chairman challenging the outcome declared in the 2012 presidential polls. This is in spite of a recent invitation by the police after the group's maiden rally at the Taifa Noway park, January 28, 2013 that saw the leaders warned to follow the laws closely.“Nothing and no one, and not even the police, will intimidate us from pursuing the course that we have chosen for ourselves. We will continue to demand for extensive reforms in the EC, we will continue to insist that the electoral rules are applied universally in Ghana such that every valid vote cast will count”, said David Asante, a member of the group said.The leadership of the group and its lawyers, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and Mike Oquaye Jnr., were summoned by the Madina Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Anderson Ackah after conducting a rally without a permit.New Statesman investigations reveal that the police took a statement from James Kwabena Bomfeh of the CPP, a LMVCA member who was not present at the unauthorized January 28th event in Taifa.Ironically, he was later said to have been placed on a self-recognizance bail even though he had not been placed under arrest nor charged with any offense. The basis of the invitation of the group’s members is one that seems to baffle the group and its lawyers.“Is there selective justice going on here,” posited Lawyer Mike Oquaye Jnr. “Why have they invited some members of the group that were not even at the said rally and at the same time stopped at inviting Prof Mike Oquaye, Madam Adwoa Sarfo MP, for Dome Kwabenya, and other notable speakers at the event?” he asked.Members of the LMVCA were seen wearing Alliance-branded T-shirts at the Madina Police Station yesterday. Some notable figures, including Abu Ramadan of the PNC, Charles Owusu of the PPP and Sammy Awuku of the NPP, also made appearances at the station.The Alliance already held its second outdoor event at the Koforidua Legion Hall and is billed to host its next at the Club Felisa’s forecourt in Community 7, Tema on Friday 8th February, 2013.
