Some Members of Parliament are angry with the leadership for putting them on Committees they had not selected. The House on Thursday adopted the report of the committee of selection on the composition of various parliamentary committees much to the chagrin of some members. Some of MPs put on committees they did not apply for are unhappy about the report and intend to petition the speaker. MP for Manhyia North, Collins Owusu Amankwah is one of the aggrieved MPs. He told Joy News’ Elton John Brobbey, he is not happy with the committee he has been asked to serve on. “Out of the preferred committees that i chose, i was not put on any of the committees,” he lamented. He has been put on the Priviledges Committee but had wanted to at least be put on the Youth and Sports Committee given his youthful exuberance. He said if the leadership was not going to put them in committees of their choice, there was no point in asking them to provide their CVs and areas of expertise. But majority chief whip and MP for Asawasi, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak told Elton Brobbey the report on the various committees cannot be amended until after a year. He also explained there was massive interest in the Finance Committee which, like other committees has limited number of places. “One of the mechanisms was that let every make a choice and attach a CV. On Committee of Finance, out of 152, i have 82 people who were interested in going to the Finance Committee,' he said. He said that committee only had 25 seats, 14 for the Majority and 11 for the Minority. With the overwhelming interest in the committee, he stated there was the need to use many criteria, including, seniority and experience as well as gender in the selection of who to sit on which committee. He appealed to members to make do with the committees they have been drafted into and hope changes will be made later next year.
