The Central Regional Communications Director for the governing NDC, Bernard Allotey Jacobs has kicked against his government’s planned removal of subsidy on petroleum products.
Government is set to announce a new price for petroleum products sometime next week, which will see the removal of subsidy currently being enjoyed by consumers of petroleum products.
The Bank of Ghana has given government the go ahead to remove subsidy on the products on the grounds that, it is unsustainable and risky to the economy.
The public has however objected to this move.
Speaking Thursday on Badwam on Adom TV Mr. Allotey Jacobs acknowledged the challenges facing stakeholders in the petroleum sector but insisted, the solution did not lie in the removal of the subsidy.
He vehemently protested against implementing the decision saying, it will worsen the plight of the vulnerable.
He called for a national approach to discussions on the matter, rather than politicizing it.
