Asante Kotoko held Kariobangi Sharks to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their 2019 Caf Confederation Cup round-of-32 clash at the Kasarani stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Kariobangi, poised to get a first leg advantage, came close to opening the scoring in the 39th minute but were denied by centre-back Agyeman Badu who made a goal-line clearance.
Three minutes later, Kotoko striker Naby Keita, unmarked in the opposition box, failed to get his header on target.
Chances were few and far between the two sides in the second half, with the first real opening coming in the 72nd minute when winger Emmanuel Gyamfi’s corner fell kindly to Sogne Yacouba but his first touch let him down when he was through on goal allowing Sharks goalkeeper to make an easy save.
The Sharks almost stole victory late on as midfielder Harrison Mwendwa was presented with a golden chance when he chested Abege's pass inside the box but his final touch let him down as he slid before taking the shot.
The result means the Porcupine Warriors needing a win in the return leg to qualify to the next stage of the competition.
The return leg will take place next week Saturday in Kumasi.
