The Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has cast a dark cloud on the country’s economic fortunes by describing the 2013 budget statement which was presented on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday as one that “marks a journey to nowhere.”Finance Minister Seth Terkper spelt out President John Mahama's vision for the country in the 2013 financial year, stating policies to address the current increasing budget deficit; plans to solve the current power crisis; policies to increase revenue and several other interventions. But that vision, according to Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu only vindicates the minority's position that the economy is struggling and that the government could not to provide for the basic needs of the citizenry. In seconding the motion for the adjournment of proceedings of the House, the Minority Leader jabbed the Finance Minister and government, accusing them of presenting a budget of no hope to the House.“…Mr Speaker, debating this budget is going to be exciting. But I think, all told, that what we termed as the message on the true state of the nation has been vindicated. The cat is out of the bag."
When the Speaker, Edward Doe Adjaho drew his attention to the fact that it was not time to debate the budget, the minority leader said: “I am not oblivious of the fact that the debate stands adjourned for three days but I only want to suggest that we are ever ready, even today, to debate this budget marking a journey to nowhere. A journey to nowhere budget.”“My colleagues should not be afraid of shadow boxing, the real fight will start sooner than later,” he added.
