A New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Kwabena Agyepong has promised to cause the biggest political upset in contemporary Ghanaian politics when the party goes to congress on December 22, 2007.
Mr. Agyepong, a former Presidential Spokesperson and Secretary to President John Agyekum Kufuor was confident of his chances.
"I'm quite confident that I will emerge victorious," he told DAILY GUIDE at the start of the third phase of his campaign to the Volta Region.
The 46-year-old civil engineer was not amused about the results of various opinion polls, saying that other aspirants would have the shock of their lives.
He wondered where the poll results were coming from since according to him the potential delegates for the congress claimed that nobody had spoken to them.
Kwabena Agyepong said as a politician he had taken notice of all information made available to him and he was motivated to work hard.
He said his vision was to create an efficient and effective state machinery that would run at a good speed.
"I will remove bottlenecks and bureaucracy that make it difficult for the business community to turn things round.
"I believe my candidature signifies a new era of fresh ideas, vitality and vigour," he stressed.
Mr. Agyepong explained that he was ready to serve Ghana with pure motives, a clear assurance and solid character.
Ghana, he said, needs a new generation of leaders who can inspire the nation to achieve its development agenda.
According to him, the critical mass of the country's human resource base was the youth and therefore needed a person within the same age bracket to propel them.
He said he would consign the aspirations of what he described as the "old guard" to the dustbin of history.
He indicated that his administration would work with the private sector to fast-track the country's development.
He mentioned organizations such as the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Ghana Chamber of Mines and Chamber of Commerce in the agenda to speed up economic development.
Mr. Agyepong's campaign tour of the Volta Region will take him to Hohoe, Ho and Sogakope where he would meet delegates and constituency executives.
From there he would move to the Western Region on Monday and hold separate meetings with party activists in Bogoso, Anyinase and Takoradi.
From the Western Region the former press secretary would dash to the Central Region, where meetings had been arranged in four locations at Twifo-Praso, Cape Coast, Mankessim and Winneba. He is expected back in Accra on Wednesday.
