Former Member of Parliament for Asokwa constituency, Maxwell Kofi Jumah has described as comical the sudden change of name of the presidential palace which serves as the seat of government.
He said the goofs, misinformation and indecision on the part of government, seem to be the hallmark of a president purported to be visionary and ready to deliver a Better Ghana to the citizenry.
Government's decision to rename the presidential palace Jubilee Flagstaff House to incorporate the old and new names has met mixed reactions.
Information Minister, Mahama Ayariga on an Accra based radio station; Peace FM, explained that the name change was necessitated by the divergent views surrounding the exact name to be given to the edifice.
But Maxwell Kofi Jumah on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday described the name change as comedy.
“I will commend government for its action because it is good for our mental health. When people are going through so much stress, we need such comic reliefs from the presidency to free our minds otherwise we will go mad,” Jumah opined.
Government, overwhelmed by the ongoing water and electricity crisis coupled with gas shortages, just wants to ease the tension in the country, Mr Jumah added.
He proposed the seat of government be named Jubilee Flagstaff Zoo House since it is closer to the Accra zoo.
The former Asokwa MP said the Mahama-led administration is full of comic relief and prayed the country gets a serious-minded government soon to direct the affairs of the country.
He wondered why President Mahama changed the name when in fact his predecessor, the late Atta Mills changed the name of the edifice from Jubilee House to Flagstaff House.
