Asante Kotoko gave their title defence a major boost after jumping to the second position on the Glo Premier League table as Hearts of Oak drew goalless with Aduana on Wednesday.
The Porcupine Warriors defeated ten-man Berekum Chelsea 2-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium to pile the pressure at the top as they are now two points behind leaders, Medeama, who drew away.
Hearts of Oak also extended their unbeaten run in the second round of the Glo Premier League to four straight matches after drawing goalless with Aduana Stars.
Despite the improvement in form, their placing on the standings is still a bother as they now sit 13th on the table and four points above the drop zone.
Elsewhere, league debutants Amidaus Professionals managed a 1-0 win against Ebusua Dwarfs at the Tema Stadium to give them a boost of breaking into the top-four.
The hopes of Wa All Stars also going on a four-game winning spree failed to materialize at the Carl Reindorf Park as they could only draw 0-0 with Liberty Professionals.
Medeama's hopes of extending their lead at the summit of the Glo Premier League was hit as Berekum Arsenal came from a goal down to draw 1-1.

Finally,AshantiGold grabbed the Adansi derby spoils, winning 2-1 against New Edubiase to hand coach Bashir Hayford his first win since assuming the Miners job.
