An assault case brought before a magistrate’s court in Accra took another dimension when the complainant who is the wife of the defendant gave him three conditions to fulfil before she would return to her marital home.
The accused, George Korley, 38, a carpenter, had been sent to the court for allegedly assaulting his wife, Mrs Vida Korley.
When the case was called, Mrs Korley, a nursing officer, asked her husband to send away his pregnant concubine before she would decide to return to her marital home.
She also requested him to go back to his family and withdraw all the negative stories he had said about her.
Vida further prayed the court to order her husband to sign a bond not to molest her again.
These conditions, however, seemed difficult for George to obey. " My Lord I cannot abide by these conditions"," he said and the court adjourned the case to February 7.
They had been married under the ordinance for the past eight years and lived in their own house at Pambros near Weija in Accra.
The court was informed that Vida on August 4, 2006 at about 9 a.m., detected that George had deleted her name from the site plan of their building.
When she confronted him on the issue, George took offen
ce and assaulted Vida, who sustained injuries on her right arm.
Vida made a report to the Police and George was arrested for prosecution.
