A Grand Durbar of the Chiefs and people of Bole was held at the weekend to climax the 37th Annual Easter Congress of the Gonjaland Youth Association.The Congress affords the various Youth Associations in Gonjaland a unique opportunity to socialize, discuss and share experiences and challenges in the course of the previous year and also serves as a platform for unifying people from Gonjaland as one family.The Minister of Communication Dr Omane Boamah who represented the President in a key note address said Gonjaland has a rich history. According to him Ndewura Jakpa was a warrior and conqueror. He said President John Mahama a son of Gonjaland is a contemporary Ndewura Jakpa because he is also a conqueror but in a different form. He explained that President John Mahama is poised to conquer poverty and unemployment. He praised the people of Bole for the smooth transition when the late Bolewura passed to glory.He said it is a testimony that the people of Gonjaland will not allow themselves to be divided by chieftaincy and hopes it continues from generation to generation. He hopes other ethnic groups emulate Gonjas on chieftaincy transition.He promised the people the President will not forget Gonjaland but added President believes in equitable distribution of resources for all Ghanaians. He was hopeful Gonjas will continue to give their support and prayers to the President.The Yagbonwuras message was read by his secretary. He said the Annual meetings are necessary because it gives the Gonjaland Youth Association he opportunity to access their achievements and failures. According to him the Gonjaland Youth Association is a non-political organization and that everybody from Gonjaland is free to join the Association and to contribute meaningfully towards the development of the Gonja Kingdom.In a speech read on his behalf, the Bolewura Awuladese Pontonpron II said his reign as Bolewura would focus on three main areas: peace unity and development because they are key ingredients needed for the progress of every society. According to him there has the people of the Bole Traditional Area and the entire Gonjaland enjoy an appreciable level of peace. He promised to run an open, just and fair leadership. He called for a functional collaboration between the District Assemblies, departments and agencies as well as all non-governmental organizations and Traditional Authorites in Gonjaland to work together in order to bring about the much needed development in Gonjaland.The newly elected executives were sworn into office to run the association for the next three years.
