The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has described the behaviour of the defence team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in court on Tuesday as, "some JSS pupils who are not ready to write examination and they want to get answers before they ask their question".He was speaking to the media shortly after the Supreme Court adjourned sitting to Wednesday, April 17, 2013.The NPP legal team had argued that they had not received any of the reported 7,000 affidavits of the first respondent, President John Mahama.The second respondent, the Electoral Commission, was also yet to file sworn affidavits of their witnesses, and has up to the close of today to do so.Lawyer Gloria Akuffo of the NPP legal team said "It would be therefore unfair to proceed with our case"."We should be furnished with their evidence. Our position was that if indeed we start our case without their affidavits they would have achieved partially what the court had earlier refused to grant them."But Asiedu Nketia said he was baffled at their conduct because the NPP had created the impression that they were ready."I thought they were ready. They are running away from their own case. You don't wait to receive answers before you ask your question".The General Secretary also known as "General Mosquito" said that he was confident that on the basis of proceedings today, the NPP had no case to present to the court. "I can assure you their case is already crumbling".The Supreme Court has adjourned the election petition hearing to Wednesday April 17.This is to enable the petitioners to be served with the sworn affidavits of the respondents.The Court said it had for the sake of equity and fairness "reluctantly adjourned" proceedings.
