The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said recent importation of Cuban doctors into the country is a sign of President Mahama’s inefficient administration.About 350 doctors from Cuba have been brought in to help deliver healthcare in the country.Government has rejected criticisms that the Cuban health workers have been
brought in to fill the vacuum created by striking doctors.General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie told Joy News that government’s action is regrettable.Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie said, “The government should show leadership, the solution is not to bring in doctors from elsewhere. What if nurses, pharmacists, teachers go on strike, are we going to bring teachers or pharmacists to man our hospitals [and institutions]?."The General Secretary of the NPP stressed that “it is because of the crises that we are in and they [government] think that by bringing the doctors in you tell the [Ghanaian] doctors to go to hell.”The move, he noted, will not solve the crises unless government shows leadership.
