The Coalition of Ghanaians in Italy for Democracy and Justice, will on the 11th of May 2013 embark on a public demonstration in Italy to, amongst others, express support for the ongoing Supreme Court case where the petitioners are challenging the validity of the results of the December 7, 2012, elections as declared by the Electoral Commission. The demonstration scheduled to begin from 9am, and see protestors march from the Reggio Emilia train station through the principal streets to Prefettura of Reggio Emilia, is intended to ask the Supreme Court to “expedite action on the petition to pave way for smooth running of the country and pass a judgment that will bring lasting peace and justice.” The group, through this demonstration, will also protest against what they describe as “unpredictable and exorbitant duties at the ports and the general hardship confronting Ghanaians.” According to the convener of the group, Mr George Annor, the group has sought and obtained a police permit from the Central Police Department of Reggio Emilia. “During the walk, there will be placards and music as allowed by the laws of Italy. At the end of the protest march, a petition will be presented to the Senate of Reggio Emilia to the effect that the Italian Government and her institutions follow with keen interest the current delicate political situation in Ghana,” Mr Annor stated.
