Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa South, Kofi Okyere-Agyekum, has advised his constituents to cultivate the habit of saving and investing into the future, so that they can reap the benefits when they are no longer in active work.
Mr. Okyere-Agyekum noted that, it is sad to see old men who are at the twilight of their life still struggling to make ends meet at a time when they are supposed to be enjoying their retirement.
The Member of Parliament made the pronouncement when he inaugurated a welfare fund to cater for members of the New Patriotic Party in his constituency at Bussoso in the Fanteakwa South constituency of the eastern region.
Affirming his claim he indicated that it is an accepted norm on the labour front that a worker is to retire from active service from the age of sixty and cleave unto his life time savings until his final demise on earth.
However, he added that it’s disheartening to note that many a time those closer to that age have a premonition for fear of the unknown simply because they have not made enough savings and investment, to cover them in their post pension life.
Mr. Kofi Okyere-Agyekum stressed that most people have had cause to change their dates of birth just to hold on to their jobs because they will have little or nothing to live on in the event of retirement.
The Member of Parliament gave the assurance to his constituents that the welfare fund which had come to mitigate the effects of financial hardships they go through, hence has asked them to contribute towards it so that they can benefit from it in times of need.
In another development, Hon. Kofi Okyere- Agyekum has urged members of his constituents to remain calm and wait patiently for the Supreme Court to pronounce its verdict on the on-going court hearing of the petition challenging the legitimacy of President John Mahama.
He said watching proceedings closely so far, it is now explicitly clear that the NPP has a solid case in court considering the mountains of evidence that the petitioners have gathered.
He told the gathering at Osino that they should not listen to the propaganda laden stories, being championed by the NDC communicators but to wait for briefings that will be given by the NPP Communicators.
He noted that Dr Bawumia, the former vice presidential candidate and star witness to the case has so far distinguished himself creditably and his performance has sent shivers down the spines of the NDC, hence their decision to use the propagandist approach to confuse the public and asked them to continue to allow unity to exist in the party.
