Dr. Kyei Faried, Northern Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), has urged Health Directors to exhibit leadership skills in the health sector to help tackle health issues confronting the nation more effectively.
He said Metropolitan, Municipal and District Health Directors should play the lead role and attach the needed seriousness in the fight against the increasing cases of hypertension and diabetes to promote a healthy lifestyle among the people.
Dr. Faried made the call during an annual delegates' Peer Review Meeting of District Directors of Health Services in Tamale on Wednesday.
The two-day meeting provided the forum for the directors to discuss ways of strengthening their leadership skills, capacity building and to dialogue with stakeholders in healthcare delivery to enhance good health among the citizenry.
Dr. Faried appealed to the Directors to be more proactive in their various jurisdictions to help meet the millennium development goals (MDGs) in the health sector.
He stressed the importance of regenerative health and urged them to help promote it for the people to live healthier lives.
Dr Jacob Mahama, National Chairman of the District Directors, said the GHS would advocate for mass screening of diseases and lobby for resources to undertake de-worming of children and provide vitamin 'A' supplement.
