Ghanain doctors are intending to embark on a nationwide strike over government’s non-implementation of negotiated salaries.Among some of the grievances stated by the doctors are government’s withdrawal of fuel allowances for medical doctors in the country.According to Luv FM sources in Kumasi the planned strike is expected to begin next week.Meanwhile, the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), the regulatory body of medical practitioners in Ghana does not seem to be in support of the strike.Sources within the association in Kumasi say the doctors are aggrieved because of inaction on the part of the Health Minsirty despite the fact that they have sent petitions on the matters to relevant authorities including the president.The doctors have been waiting for the implementation of the negotiated salaries since February 2006.Speaking to Joy News’ Evans Mensah, President of the GMA, Dr. Emmanuel Adom Wilful said he is yet to receive any indication that his members were going to embark on a strike.He however, said the underlining reasons for a strike action will be genuine.He emphasised the fact that their employer, the Ministry of Helath has failed to implement the negotiated salaries which was agreed upon and was supposed to affect to all categories of health workers.He said, the leadership would continue to talk to their members to exercise restraint as they continue to hold discussions with government.
