Lead counsel for the petitioners challenging the outcome of the December 2012 presidential elections, Mr. Philip Addison on Monday gave indications he would conclude his cross-examination of the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan on Tuesday.
Tuesday marks the 46th day into proceedings since Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate in the 2012 elections; his running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and NPP national chairman Jake Obetsebi Lamptey went to court over their disagreements with the final poll results announced by the Electoral Commission which saw President John Mahama being declared winner.
Should Addison conclude his case, it would be left with the re-examination of Dr. Afari-Gyan by his counsel, James Quashie Idun, to be followed by addresses by the respective counsel for each of the four parties to the case and then a ruling by court.
The case has already seen witnesses in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; National Democratic Congress General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah; international audit firm KPMG represented by Nii Amanor Dodoo and Dr. Afari-Gyan while documents, including polling station results sheets otherwise called pink sheets, voters registers, letters, and audio recordings have all been tendered in evidence before the court.
