Some youth in Wulensi in the Northern Region on Tuesday night destroyed properties, including a branded vehicle following the President’s decision to retain the sitting Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in the area.
The youth marched through the Wulensi streets causing mayhem and eventually setting ablaze a National Democratic Congress (NDC) branded vehicle, parked in the Party Chairman’s house.
The youth reiterated that their protest was to send signal to President John Mahama that his decision to retain Alhaji Seidu Hamid as the MCE was not welcomed.
Regional secretary of NDC, Mohammed Fuseini Saba, who confirmed the incident to Joy News said the situation is calm now.
This is the second time in a week that a group has protested the President's choice of an MCE.
Recently, a group calling itself “The Concerned Youth of Sekondi-Takoradi” also petitioned the President through the deputy regional Minister to replace the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in the area.
They claim the MCE, Captain Anthony Cudjoe (Rtd) has reneged on his responsibility.
