David Asante Apeatu’s replacement as Inspector General of Police must be someone who can restore public confidence in the force, COP (rtd) Bright Oduro has said.
The former Police CID boss said his remarks are not a vote of no confidence in the Asante Apeatu-led police force but recent events have weakened public confidence in the police.
“We all know what has happened,” he said, citing “crime challenges and murder cases not solved.”

He said the recent kidnapping cases, especially those involving the three Takoradi missing girls is a task the new police chief must clam down to restore the public trust.
The Ex-CID boss’ comments come amid speculations of whom President Nana Akufo-Addo will choose to replace the IGP.
The current IGP came into office with the advent of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and was due to retire in August 2018 but his mandate was extended by a year.
Which officers are up for the top job?
Some 10 Commissioners Of Police are the most likely to get the nod from the current IGP should the President decide not to extend his term again.
There are reports as well about a push for a female police chief. Should the President buy into that, CID boss, Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, newly promoted to COP would have a strong chance of landing the job.
Speaking to Kojo Yankson on the AM Show on the Joy News channel on MultiTV, however, COP Addo-Danquah’s predecessor, Bright Oduro said she stands the risk of being undermined because she is among the junior-most of the Commissioners.
He said the senior Commissioners may not give her the needed cooperation.
The Ex-CID boss also said the position of IGP comes with a lot of stress and he doubts if a woman can withstand the stress.
