Simms Secondary Commercial College (Simmsco) in the Kwabre District of Ashanti Region pipped Kofi Adjei Secondary Technical High School to emerge winners of a four-school soccer tournament at Fawoade.
The gala was sponsored by Sports Exchange Ghana Limited.
The lone goal was scored by Opoku Sarkodie in the final minutes of the match played at the Simms College pitch.
The winners were awarded with an eight million cedi giant trophy, 20 sets of track suit, five soccer balls and a set of jerseys.
The runners-up were presented with three soccer balls and a set of jersey.
Antoa Senior High School also beat Adanwomase High School 1-0 to place third in the competition and were also given two balls while the fourth team got a ball for their effort.
Mr Collins Edward Badu, Headmaster of Simmsco who presented the trophy to the winners said the trophy has been dedicated to Mr Simms Kofi Mensah, founder of the College.
Mr Kwame Adade, Managing Director of Sports Exchange said part of the Company’s support to sports development includes organizing women soccer tournament in Kumasi in 2003.
He said the Company which was formerly called Kendis Sports also provided uniforms for the nation’s Under-20 soccer team that placed second at the 2001 Youth World Cup in Argentina.
Mr Adade appealed to the students to be disciplined and concentrate on combining their studies with soccer.
Mr Benjamin Boakye, alias Benjacus, Sports Master of Simmsco thanked the sponsors for organizing the tournament saying it had opened avenues for the players to exploit their talents.
