The Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment and Member of Parliament for Salaga, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Boniface, has called on the people of the East Gonja District to fight ignorance, disease and poverty, rather than thinking of conflicts.
Addressing a meeting of the Kpembewura, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna Kibasibi and his elders, headmen and opinion leaders of Konkomba communities in the Kpembe Traditional Area at Kpembe, he said there are people he termed conflict contractors, who live either in Accra or outside the country and fan conflicts.
He said such contractors often send arms to the people to fight, while they live comfortably with their families elsewhere.
Alhaji Boniface said even though there are very good projects envisaged for the development of the area, nobody will invest in an area where there are conflicts, stressing that the people of the district are their own enemies and should therefore not blame government.
The Minister said the people of the area have suffered too much from conflicts and should not continue to suffer while those who fan such conflicts enjoy.
A Programme Officer of SEND Foundation, Reverend Moses Bakar called on the people to try as much as possible to establish trust among themselves saying peace should come from themselves and not anywhere.
He said SEND Foundation is sending out peace animators to various communities to preach peace and therefore called on the people to co-operate with them.
The District Police Commander, Joseph Agbodjan assured the people that the District security Committee is high on the alert and is not taking rumours and reports of a possible conflict in the area lightly. The Kpembewura urged the Konkomba headmen and opinion leaders to carry the message home to their people, since nobody is free when there is a conflict.
