The Movement of United Ghanaians Abroad (MUGA),is urging parties involved in the electoral dispute to accept the Supreme Court's verdict on the petition challenging the declaration of president John Mahama as winner of the 2012 presidential election. A release issued and signed by Dr. William Wiafe, President of MUGA, noted that the country's economy is by far the hardest hit by the petition and therefore called on the parties not to do anything that will make the country suffer further economic deterioration. The group which is based in Germany, also commended president John Mahama and New Patriotic Party flagbearer in the 2012 elections, Nana Akufo-Addo, for publicly declaring their readiness to accept the verdict. Read the full statement issued by MUGA below: Germany, 29th July 2013 PRESS STATEMENT MOVEMENT OF UNITED GHANAIANS ABROAD (MUGA) PRESS STATEMENT TO ALL PARTIES IN THE ONGOING ELECTION PETITION HEARING AT THE SUPREME COURT. Ghanaians abroad ask Ghanaians to Accept Supreme Court Verdict in Good Faith. “There is no place like home." We might not be in Ghana in person, but Ghana is all what we have. Since our love ones, family members, treasure and struggle offshore are for our motherland Ghana, we are calling for peace and understanding after the verdict. It was welcoming news to hear from the president of the republic, John Dramani Mahama and the 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) Nana Akufo Addo to accept the verdict of the Supreme Court regarding the election petition case. It was the kind of comments we outside the shores of the country have been long waiting for. The timing of the comments was just perfect especially coming at a time when opposing party supporters do not see eye to eye. His Excellency John Dramani Mahama told Ghanaians and the world he was ready to accept whatever the verdict of the Supreme Court was going to give. President Mahama’s comments emanated from talks he had with the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin when the later visited the Flagstaff House earlier this year. Upon watching and listening to what transpired at the seat of government that day, we were satisfied somehow and some of us had to take a deep sigh of relieve. We immediately congratulated him for taking the initiative. Nana Akufo Addo who is leading the NPP to contest the 2012 election results at the Supreme Court has also expressed his willingness to accept any verdict the court will give even if it does not go in his favour. We cannot help but to commend him as well. This is what we have been waiting for. But just as we know that it is easier said than done, we would now want to tell the two contenders in the election petition hearing that they should go by their words and accept the ruling of the Supreme Court whichever way it goes. The mood of the country is such that a little misunderstanding can trigger any chaos which we all agree would be unpleasant to our nation taking into cognizance the heights we have achieved since multi- party democracy was restored in Ghana in 1992. We have come a long way and we cannot just leave these achievements to go away. It is no doubt that the election petition case has affected the country’s economy in a more negative way so it will only be the best if we deal with the case and move on as a country because the more the case continues to be at the Supreme Court, the more the country suffers economically. We should also not turn a deaf ear to the prophecy of one of our revered men of God, the General Overseer of International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Dr. Mensa Anamua Otabil who said he can sense evil befalling Ghana within the next one month if Christians do not wake up and pray for the country. We should not forget that especially when he was not the first person to reveal such a doom. Now it looks certain that the case will soon be over after spending a little over half a year in court. We acknowledge the fact that when the Supreme Court rules any party which losses is entitled to go for review. But looking at how far we have come with this court case it is our humble plea that no party should consider going for a review but rather accept the ruling no matter how difficult it would receive the verdict. And put their logistics together for 2016 election. We the members of the Movement of United Ghanaians Abroad, (MUGA) have decided to make our voice heard on this subject because not only do we have relatives at home but we strongly feel it’s a duty for us to contribute to the development of our revered nation through any means including this. We wish the country well and urged all citizens home and abroad to contribute their quota by urging the all the parties involved in the case to publicly pledge their commitment to peace after the Supreme Court ruling.
