Eight out of 19 rampaging NDC youth who were alleged to have been involved in violent demonstrations in Nkwanta North in the Volta Region, have been charged with conspiracy and causing damage. They are to appear before a Magistrate Court, Monday. This was confirmed by Joy News' Volta Region correspondent Isaac Mintah. 26 people were arrested over the week-end for burning five government vehicles and destroying other state properties in protest over the president's decision to retain the District Chief Executive of the area, Paul Levin Gyato. Seven of the suspects were released after preliminary investigations reducing the number of suspects to 19. On Monday the Volta Region Police Commander Fred Agyapong Asare said eight out of the nineteen will be arraigned before the Magistrate. According to him, the remaining were found to have played minimal role in the vandalism and have therefore been issued with warning letters not to repeat such acts of vandalism. He added, the ball is now in the court of the Magistrate. If the court decides that the gravity of the offence is not serious enough then it can grant the suspects bail. Meanwhile, the retained DCE Levin Gyato is accusing some NDC constituency executives of instigating the violent demonstrations. He said his role in the NDC cannot be over emphasised, adding none of the executives can pretend to know more that the president who retained him.
