Some 50 individuals living with various forms of disability in the Krachi West District in the Oti region have received start-up kits from the Assembly.
The start-up kits were procured with the 3% of the Assembly’s Common Fund earmarked for the upkeep of such persons.
The items presented included industrial sewing machines, deep freezers, fridges, wheelchairs, milling machines desktop computers, laptops and cash.
Presenting their items at a ceremony, District Chief Executive (DCE) Karachi West, Douglas Nti Osei, promised government's commitment to ensuring that PWDs are well catered for and provided the necessary logistics and financial support.
According to Douglas Nti Osei, government is doing everything to make sure that their needs are met so as to make them financially independent instead of depending on families.
He said government is also committed to empowering the PWDs as one of the major priorities. He also urged the individuals and organisations to make it a part of their goals in helping the PWDs in society.
"The Assembly will continue to support the PWDs as the president's aim at equipping them with the requisite skills and training as well as financial support," Mr Nti Osei said.
Karachiwura, Nana Mprah Besemuna, commended the government for the effort to make PWDs engage in viable economic activities but called for to be done to improve on their living standards.
He advised the beneficiaries to put the items given to them to good use to bring out the desired results.
