Government says its efforts at fighting corruption in the country is paying off as it scores 41 points out of a possible 100 on the latest Corruption Perception Index for the second time.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Information Minister said the Akufo-Addo administration pledges to continue with the recent efforts that have led to improved rankings.
He told journalists at a media briefing Sunday that government “views Ghana’s performance in the latest report as feedback.”
The Ofoase Ayirebi MP took the opportunity to remind Ghanaians and its major stakeholders that “government remains committed to fighting against corruption especially in the Public Sector.”
“It has demonstrated this by increasing resource allocation strengthening state institutions that lead the charge. This includes the increased budgetary allocation to anti-graft agencies such as CHRAJ, Auditor-General Department, OSP among others.
According to him, the establishment of the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the appointment of former Attorney General, Martin Alamisi Amidu is a clear indication of President Akufo-Addo’s commitment toward eradicating the canker.
He said thorough investigations have also been conducted on all corruption allegations against appointees under this administration by the relevant institutions.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah said government has also instituted certain measures at key institutions to minimise corruption tendencies citing the digitisation of processes at the ports, Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), the passport office among others.
“While we continue to perform our role in this fight, we urge the broader society and stakeholders to complement government’s efforts in this battle,” he said.
