The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) in Fanteakwa district has warned farmers to stop the habit of tasting agrochemicals before usage to ascertain its potency.
Speaking at the annual performance review meeting of the Ghana Health Service at Begoro on Friday, Mr Philip Ebenezer Azidoku said the practice was not safe and would affect the health of the farmers in future.
He asked farmers to solicit the services of agriculture extension
officers in the application of agro chemicals to save future lives.
Mr. Azidoku said high rainfall pattern last year contributed to high
food and vegetable production in the district.
He said the high rainfall pattern however affected tomato production, which dropped by 67 percent last year.
He asked the public to stop slaughtering animals at their backyards
since the practice may be unwholesome.
Mr Azidoku expressed concern at the low level of protein intake from
animal sources due to the low record of animals slaughtered at the slaughter house last year.
He said poultry intake was now on the ascendancy after the exit of the bird flu and urged the public to consume more poultry.
He said 650 beneficiaries were trained last year in Soya beans
utilisation while 902 people vaccinated their pets against rabies.
