Workers of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) have rescinded their decision to embark on a strike.
This follows the payment of part of their salary arrears by the government.
Workers of the NYEP last threatened to go on a demonstration to press home the demand for their unpaid salaries but the Ministry of Manpower, Youth and Employment promised to pay the salaries as soon as possible.
The Minster, Nana Akomea explained the delays in payment were due to problems relating to cash flows.
A spokesperson for the Greater Accra Regional branch of the workers, Kwame Sefa, told Joy News that some of the workers have received three months’ salary arrears.
He said the workers were ready to accept a quarterly payment as proposed by the ministry but added the decision of the ministry regarding the mode of payment must be communicated to them.
Mr Sefa also suggested to the government to institute measures to monitor the workers to ensure that they are contributing effectively to the development of the country.
