The Prampram District Police are investigating circumstances that led to the explosion of ammunition at the Bundase Military Training area in the Dangme West District, leading to a 21-year-old herdsman losing one of his arms.
Nene Teye, the victim, who sustained several degrees of injuries as a result of the detonation, is currently on admission at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Richardson Kumeko, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said in the morning of February 12, this year, Teye, who doubles as a scrap dealer found a strange object from the fields around the Bundase Military Training area when he sent the livestock there to graze.
DSP Kumeko said the victim hit the object with a metal to split it open in order to extract the aluminium he saw inside the object, but it exploded, causing nearby structures to vibrate.
He advised the public to stay off military zones, especially those places restricted to civilians.
