Mr Kofi Ahiabor, presiding over a District Magistrate’s Court at Awutu in the Central Region, on Thursday imposed a fine of GH¢500 on Paul Kobina Badu, a taxi driver, for careless driving.
Badu pleaded guilty and would go to jail for six months in default.
According to Police Chief Inspector Helena Aidoo, on February 19, this year, the accused was driving on the Accra-Kasoa trunk road and heading towards the main traffic lights at Kasoa, but failed to stop when the lights indicated red.
The Prosecution said the accused drove on carelessly towards Nyanyano and nearly crashed with an oncoming vehicle.
Chief Inspector Aidoo said the accused was signalled to stop, but ignored
it and sped off, and that Badu was arrested after a hot chase.
