Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Alhaji Awudu Yirimeah has advised Ghanaians to honour their tax obligation to enable the government generated enough money for national development. He explained that the government could not effectively provide the necessary infrastructure and services if people did not pay their taxes regularly and promptly.Alhaji Yirimeah was speaking at the launch of a tax education campaign in Bolgatanga in the region, organized by the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE).He said government needed more money for the constructing of schools, hospitals, roads and ensuring peace and order.Alhaji Yirimeah said "These development targets cannot be achieved without people honoring their tax obligation." and noted that the responsibility of government towards the citizenry continued to grow tremendously.He commended the NCCE for the launch and called on the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), the Immigration Service, and other development partners to complement the efforts of the NCCE.The Regional Director of NCCE, Mr. Haruna Sulemana said the campaign would be carried out in all the districts in the region.He said the NCCE would target market places organize radio talk shows in English and local languages, hold focal group discussions, organize talks in Mosques and Churches among others, to create awareness on the payment of taxes.Source: GNA.
