A 21-year-old first-year student of the Accra Polytechnic has drowned in a swimming pool at Godson Club House at Akosombo.Prince Agyei, a Purchasing and Supply student, died during an excursion of the polytechnic's students to Akosombo last Saturday.An eyewitness, Patrick Ofosu Danso, a former Marketing student of the polytechnic, told the Daily Graphic that after taking in some alcohol, Agyei decided to bathe in the swimming pool and dived into it at the six feet deep part of the pool.He said three minutes later, the other students found their mate floating on the water helplessly.The District Police Commander, Superintendent Okyere Darko, also confirmed the story to the Daily Graphic on phone.He said the incident occurred around 4:35p.m. and was reported to the police around 5:00 p.m.He said Agyei, who was the only child of his parents, was pulled out of the water and rushed to the Volta River Authority Hospital but was pronounced dead by the hospital officials.Source: Daily Graphic
