An ex-convict who claimed to be a trader has been thrown back into jail for seven years by the Agona Swedru Circuit Court for stealing a student's pen drive at the Central Campus of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).Joe Solomon, 23, who had served two terms in prison for stealing, reportedly succeeded in stealing the pen drive but failed in his bid to steal a cell phone lying on a table beside the bed on which Francis Wettor, the complainant, lay.Joe pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful entry and stealing.The presiding judge, Mr C.A. Wilson, ordered that the retrieved pen drive be returned to its owner.According to Chief Inspector Paul Adama, the complainant, Francis Wettor, was taking a siesta in his room at 1p.m. on February 24, this year. Already, there had been rampant thefts on the campus and the students had been complaining bitterly about them without any results.The prosecutor said that afternoon when Wettor was resting in his room, Joe took advantage of the quiet atmosphere and sneaked into the room and took Wettor's MP3 pen drive, valued at GHc50, which he put into his pocket.As if that was not enough, Joe caught sight of a Nokia phone, valued at GHc65, lying on a table beside Wettor's bed and, in his attempt to steal the phone, he stretched an arm, which might have touched Wettor, thereby waking him up.Wettor raised an alarm, which attracted other students who apprehended Joe and handed him over to the police.A search in his pockets yielded the stolen pen drive, which was shown to the court as an exhibit.Source: The Mirror
