The Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA) has began a series of demolition of illegal fence walls, sheds, chop bars and other unauthorised structures within Takoradi township.
The security personnel within the metropolis started the exercise around 0400 hours.
Traders, shop owners, friends and relatives of the victims of the exercise could be seen in groups discussing their fate while others openly wipe, as a bulldozer rammed through the structures.
Carpenters, carrying their work tools easily gained jobs, as affected shop owners and traders who attempted to salvage their roofing sheets, louver shutters among others, engaged their services.
John Laste, Public Relations officer of SAEMA, said the victims failed to heed to a caution issued by the assembly that such structures should be removed before the exercise began.
He said the exercise was part of preparations towards the country's golden jubilee celebrations and was also meant to make the metropolis tidy.
Mr. Laste said the assembly will continue with the exercises to rid the city off all unauthorised structures.
