A circuit court at Cape Coast on Tuesday remanded Edward Dominic Annan, a 30-year-old Security man of Adisadel College in custody for allegedly battering and damaging the left eye of his girlfriend.
His plea was not taken and is to be re-arraigned on Friday March 14.
Prosecuting, Inspector Francis Augustine Amonoo told the court presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu, that on March 4, 2008 at about 1900 hours, Annan returned from work and met Lovelis Afful, his girlfriend, chatting with a friend behind the Melcom Supermarket in Cape Coast.
Inspector Amonoo alleged that Annan started accusing Lovelis of disgracing and tarnishing his image to elders in the family. He then pounced on her, and beat her and pushed her into a gutter behind the Supermarket.
He said the lady sustained severe injuries and damaged her left eye and that two women, who happened to be passing by, came to her aid and rushed her to the Cape Coast district hospital, where she was admitted and discharged after three days.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police and Annan was arrested.
