Mr Salifu Saeed, Nanumba North District Chief Executive has appealed to non-governmental and corporate bodies to assist the District Assembly with funds to rehabilitate the Bimbilla water system pumping machine that got burnt last year.
He said the people had been under severe quest for good drinking water ever since fire razed down the entire water system and brought unbearable hardship to the people who needed to be helped to avert possible outbreak of diseases.
Mr Saeed made the appeal in Bimbilla on Tuesday during an emergency consultative meeting with stakeholders in the water sector and opinion leaders to deliberate and see what measures would be put in place to solve the problem.
Mr Saeed said water was life and that the people were already confronted with poverty and that the situation would get worse if measures were not put in place to provide them with good drinking water.
He said about GH¢200,000 was needed to bring the machine back to life and that the Assembly alone could not foot the bill.
He said there were only five boreholes in the entire Bimbilla, which were woefully inadequate to serve the people and that the only water source was the untreated dam on the Bimbilla-Chamba road.
Mr Saeed advised the people who use the dam as source of drinking water to always treat the water to avoid contracting water borne disease.
