Mr. Kwamena Bartels, Interior Minister, on Friday appealed to district assemblies to assist the Police Service with the provision of residential and office accommodation.
He said this would enable the Service to have more police personnel covering many areas in the country.
The Minister was responding to a question from Mr. Stephen Balado-Manu, (NPP- Ahafo Ano North) on why the Mpasaaso 11 Police Station in the Ahafo Ano North constituency in the Ashanti Region was currently having only one police officer at post.
Mr Balado-Manu informed the Minister that the district assembly had put up facilities to house more officers.
The Minister then assured the member that he would check on the information and if it was true, more officers would be sent to Mpasaaso 11 police station to beef up security presence.
Mr. Abuga Pele, (NDC-Chiana Paga) also questioned the Ministry on why the Ministry was not factoring the provision of residential and office accommodation into the recruitment of more officers.
Mr. Bartels said this was not the case but rather it was a question of more demand for police presence in every part of the country outstripping supply.
In response to another question on if the Ministry would consider fencing the James Town district police station, the Minister said funds were not immediately available.Source: GNA
