The District Chief Executive for East Akyem, Emmanuel Victor Asihene, has called on health providers to collaborate with the government to discharge quality health care to the people.
The DCE was speaking at the East Akyem District Health Directorate Annual Performance Review Meeting at Kyebi in the Eastern Region.
He said the National Health Insurance Scheme has brought a lot of financial relief to the health sector and has become an easier avenue for raising money for health workers.
Mr. Asihene said the East Akyem District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme has so far paid more than ¢2b as hospital claims to health facilities in the district.
He therefore asked health workers to increase consultation with the Health Insurance Scheme Managers to make health delivery more accessible and affordable.
Mr. Asihene said the Assembly with support from the European Union is putting up two buildings for Community Based Health Planning Services, (CHPS), at Apapem and Kwesi Konafo while other renovation works for the same purpose are on-going in other parts of the district.
He assured the people that the on-going rehabilitation works on the children block at Tafo Hospital will be completed by the end of March.
The District Director of Health Services, Mrs. Eunice Abuaku, said health workers in the district have been given capacity training in customer care, Lactation Management, Diagnosis and Management of Tuberculosis, Disease Surveillance and Safe Motherhood.
She outlined measures taken to reduce maternal mortality in the district. They include durbars in communities where deaths occur, health education on danger signs of pregnancy, abortions and post abortion care and the engagement of traditional and opinion leaders in the fight against maternal deaths.
