The Winneba District Police Command and the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly have formed a joint task force to combat the activities of grave looters operating in the area.
Solomon Kwashie Abbam-Quaye, District Chief Executive (DCE), who announced this at Winneba, at the weekend, said the action has become necessary in view of the recent discretion of graves at the Winneba Public and Muslim cemeteries.
Grave looters have in the past few months opened more than 100 graves at the two cemeteries and took away several human parts.
Mr Abbam-Quaye said the task force has already commenced business and warned that anyone caught in the "dangerous, degrading and inhuman act" will be dealt with drastically.
He praised Nicholas Gazu, District Police Commander for his co-operation and support and urged people of the area especially residents near the cemeteries to assist the task force to make their operation successful.
Mr. Abbam-Quaye said plans are fair advanced to fence the cemeteries.Source: GNA
