The Jasikan District Forestry Officer, Samuel Omari Nyarko has condemned the activities of Fulani herdsmen for their notoriety in plundering the nation's forests with impunity.
He was recounting a bushfire incident caused by the Fulani herdsmen at Kogokrom that has affected some portions of the Kabo Forest Reserve at Worawora, the Akposo-Kabo Reserve, Katanga and Asukawkaw reserves in early January.Mr. Nyarko, who undertook an anti-bushfire outreach campaign in 23 fringe communities bordering the Kabo and Odomi River Forest reserves in the Jasikan and Kadjebi districts, respectively, urged the people to guard against unproductive activities that are likely to destroy the forest resources. He advised the people to report the presence of Fulani herdsmen to the appropriate authorities for prompt action.Mr. Nyarko asked the Community Forest Management Committees (CFMCs) to redouble their efforts in the protection and sustenance of the reserves."This is the only obligation towards safeguarding the investments being made by the Forest Protection and Resource Use Management (FORUM) project."He commended the people of Bodada, Teteman and Bowiri-Kyirahini for their vigilance, which had prevented bushfires in their areas.Nana Ofori Appew, Chief of Guaman called on the Jasikan District Administration to complement the efforts of the traditional councils in the enforcement of byelaws on bushfires.Source: GNA
