President Kufuor says he is happy that Ghana will soon have access to affordable energy supply from within the sub-region as a result of the successful implementation of the West African Power Pool Project.
He made the remark in Cotonou, Benin where he joined his counterparts from Togo, Benin and Nigeria for the inauguration of the energy inter-connectivity project between Nigeria, Benin and Togo.
Energy Minister, Joseph Adda says Ghana would benefit from this interchange of electricity after some technical problems have been completed.
Speaking at the inauguration, President Obasanjo of Nigeria said the success of the project will re-energize the relationship between four countries Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Ghana.
He therefore congratulated his colleagues on this feat. President Obasanjo intimated that only last year, Nigeria, Togo and Benin initialled an agreement for a co-prosperity partnership binding their three countries together. Under it, the economy and social life of the three countries will be bound together.
He was therefore happy that Ghana is prepared to join the programme which wills fast track objectives of ECOWAS and the AU's NEPAD. President Obasanjo remarked that nothing can epitomize this better than the energy inter connectivity programme.
President Obasanjo emphasized that no country can see itself as an island in a global world and Nigeria is happy to be sharing what it has with its neighbours.
