The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and NEPAD, Mr Akwasi Osei Adjei, on Wednesday commended the Korean government for its support to Ghana over the years.
Mr Osei Adjei was speaking at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Ministry for the provision of e-consul and e-administration IT systems to the ministry in Accra.
The 1.5 million-dollar programme, which is being financed by the Korean government, is to network the ministry to have direct links with its missions abroad and facilitate communication with them at reduced cost.
The project, which starts in April this year, is to be completed by 2008.
Mr Osei Adjei said the country had benefited tremendously from Korea and that the current IT programme would go to strengthen the already cordial relation between the two nations.
Ms Hong Hee-Soo, leader of the ICT Team, KOICA, said the new IT programme would enable the ministry to access passports and visas through the system without much difficulty.
She said the accounting facility that the system would provide would also enable the ministry to monitor the financial transactions of the missions abroad and be able to respond to their needs.
Ms Hong said the programme had a facility to train Ghanaian IT experts in the handling of the facilities.Source GNA
