The Police Administration has dispatched a high-powered team of detectives to Kumasi to investigate the murder of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalist’ Association, Samuel Enin, last Friday.
The team comprises senior personnel from the Homicide Squad, the Crime Scene Management Unit and the Criminal Investigations Department.
Acting Director of the Police Public Relations, Kwasi Ofori said that the team will work in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command to track down Mr. Enin’s killers.
"They have been tasked to do a thorough work," he said.
DSP Ofori said he was optimistic that with the cooperation of the public, the culprits will soon be apprehended.
"We are counting on the public to volunteer information about the perpetrators to the police."
Mr. Enin., who was the News Editor of Ash FM, a radio station in Kumasi was shot by unidentified gunmen at a drinking spot last Friday. He died later in hospital.
The GJA and the police administration have offered ¢10 million and ¢20 million reward, respectively, to anyone who would volunteer information leading to the arrest of the killers. Another offer of ¢10 million has been made by the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo Pankrono and Deputy Finance Minister, Anthony Akoto Osei.
The media fraternity is mourning the death by flying red flags at half mast at the International Press Centre, media houses and regional branches of the GJA.
Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Branch of the GJA has also expressed its shock and indignation at the killing of Mr. Enin.
In a statement, the branch said it learnt with disbelief the cruel assassination of Mr. Enin.
