Eleven persons, included a pregnant mother have been confirmed to have perished in the head-to-head train crash on Thursday at Huni Valley, near Tarkwa in the Western Region.
The Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways, Professor Christopher Ameyaw Ekumfi told Joy News at midday that 10 bodies had so far been recovered while efforts continued to recover the last.
The Minister, who was on his way to the scene of the accident, said information available to him suggested that communication failure may have caused the two cargo trains to crash, however full scale investigation was underway.
One of the trains, carrying bauxite, emptied its cargo on collision, however officials say all of it was recovered.
Twenty-five persons suffered serious injuries in the crash, including one said to be in critical condition.
