The Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama has directed healthcare providers to take immediate measures to guarantee the best service to all citizens including NHIS card bearers' at all health care facilities. This is to encourage more people to register with the scheme.
He said government will not relent in its efforts to resource the scheme for efficient operation.
Alhaji Aliu Mahama said this at a handing over ceremony of the first batch of 30 Toyota pick-ups, 20 motorbikes and bicycles valued at more than ¢38bn to selected districts operating the Mutual Health Insurance Scheme.
He said in spite of constraints facing the implementation of the NHIS, government is convinced that the scheme is on course.
The Vice President said government"s efforts would be effective if Ghanaians especially registered members of the scheme defend it to ensure it sustainability.
He appealed to the media to be objective in their reportage on the scheme in order not to erode the growing confidence the people have in it.
The Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Council, Ras Boateng said lack of logistics is not helping the smooth running of the scheme.
He urged Ghanaians to collaborate to ensure its successful implementation.
Mr. Boateng was hopeful that the staff will live up to expectation to erase the negative perception about their activities.
The Chairman of the NHIS Council, Frank Adu appealed to government to review the procurement process since it has delayed the acquisition of vehicles.
He said the scheme is 38% operational throughout the country.
