Hajia Alima Mahama, the Women and Children’s Affairs Minister, according to a group of concerned persons seeking her partnership with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, “fits Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a partner” because of her political pedigree.The group, which stormed the offices of DAILY GUIDE yesterday said, “The choice of a partner in this critical election should be based on the acumen, experience and political pedigree of the person”.Although her name has been mentioned as one of the possible New Patriotic Party (NPP) personalities to partner the party’s presidential candidate, much has not been said about her, the leader of the concerned group, Kweku Hayford noted during their visit to the DAILY GUIDE.“We are here to tell you that Hajia Alima as a Moslem woman from the Northern part of the country is the most appropriate person for the job,” he said.Under her leadership of the Women and Children’s Ministry, the group said she has distinguished herself and given a new lease of respectability to womanhood.The NPP has become a household name in her constituency; a development that is attributable to her efforts, they said.The sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for the Nalerigu/Gambaga constituency, the group indicated, has been given another nod to represent the party in Parliament, an indication of her popularity in her constituency.The female lawyer was born on 17th November 1957 to Mr. Mahama Tampurie, a United Party MP for Walewale in those early days of local politics, the group asserted, adding, “Her father was a key member of the Northern People’s Party which later joined forces with the National Liberation Movement and others to form the United Party.”Continuing with the history of the lady lawyer, the group recalled that Hajia Alima’s father was a contemporary of Mr. C.K. Tedam, a member of the Council of State.The group served notice that it would do all it can to sell Hajia Alima to the presidential candidate of the party, because, as they put it, “such a partnership has the potential of brining the much needed success in the forthcoming electoral battle”.She is said to have won the hearts of many women across the country, but with the presidential candidate keeping his cards to his chest, Ghanaians would read many more stories about the qualities of possible partners.Credit: Daily Guide
