For the third time running, the NPP primaries in the Suhum constituency ended in a deadlock on Monday, this time with supporters crossing swords at each other. Two people are said to be in Police grips for inciting the violence. According to reports by the Joy Fm Eastern Regional correspondent, Benjamin Henaku, the clash was between the town folks and people from Nima a suburb of Accra, who were believed to be supporters of the incumbent, Fred Opare Ansah. The violence was brought under control by the Police, he said. Speaking to Joy News, Lord Commey National organizer of the NPP said he was not aware of the violence but admitted that lots of tension preceded the contest. He said the party will meet tomorrow to take a final decision on the matter. He however expressed the possibility of maintaining the incumbent, saying there had been precedence in the 2004 primaries in the Kade Constituency. The Suhum primaries had been hotly contested with Mr. Bryan Acheampong threatening to upstage the incumbent Mr. Fred Opare Ansah. Two earlier primaries had ended in a tie with both candidates polling 51 votes apiece. After a third consecutive tie, Mr. Yaw Adu Chairman of Suhum constituency of the NPP said he was counting on the National Executives to intervene and resolve the issue.
