The Ashanti Regional Moslem Youth Wing (ARMUH) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the party’s flag-bearer Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo to choose Sheikh I. C. Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister as his running mate for the upcoming elections. The group made the call at a press conference addressed by Muhammed Fouad, spokesperson of the group, in Kumasi on Thursday. The group pointed out that even though several names had been mentioned as potential running mates, certain strategic factors such as religious and gender balance cannot be overlooked in making that critical decision of who should partner Nana Akufo-Addo. "Alhaji Aliu Mahama, the Vice-President made a good impact toward ensuring victory for the Party in the 2000 and 2004 elections, not because he is a Northerner or from a particular ethnic group, but because he is a Moslem,” Fouad said. “This implied that the running mate should be a Moslem, who is well vexed in the Dankwa-Busia Tradition,” he added. The group noted that Sheikh Quaye is a devout Moslem, a peace maker with unique organizational skills, a tried and tested party activists and a Moslem leader with an extraordinary relationship with the Christian and traditional communities in Ghana.
