The West African Gas Pipeline Project is expected to come on stream by the end of the month. This is about the fourth time the ruling government has rescheduled dates for gas delivery from the project. But the Deputy Energy Minister, Kwame Ampofo Twumasi in an interview with Adom News said gas will definitely flow from the project. He said the ministry is waiting for a report from a team of experts currently in Nigeria to resolve a problem encountered by the Nigerian authorities with Chevron and Shell. He said Ghana has completed its part of the deal and only waiting for the two companies to do same. The Deputy Minister explained that the challenge faced by the Chevron and Shell is to dry the gas and compress it before it gets to the Ghana end of the pipeline, adding that in order to do so there is the need to install equipment which seems to have become the bone of contention.
Mr. Twumasi disclosed that the Norwegian government has shown interest in supporting Ghana in the WAPCO project.Ghana is banking on power supply from the project to support current energy capacity. The government had initially tinkered with the possibility of relocating the Osagyefo Barge to Tema from Effasu in the Western Region use the expected gas for additional power generation.Credit: Afia Pokuaa (Adom FM)
