A 43-year-old employee of the Ghana Railway Company (GRC) who allegedly stole some shanks of the rail line has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Juaso Circuit Court.Issah Kusasi, who pleaded guilty to the charge, was convicted on his own plea.Chief Inspector Stephen Opare, told the court presided over by Mr Jacob Boon that on June 25, a witness spotted the accused unscrewing some shanks of the rail line between Konongo and Yawkwei. When the witness got closer to the accused he realized that the accused had already removed seven sacks of the shanks and questioned who authorized him to do so.The accused, who replied that he was ordered by his superiors to remove the shanks, was then asked to leave them behind and call his superior but he failed to return after several hours. The witness later went to the office where he was informed that the accused was an employee of the company but he was not authorized to remove the shanks. The case was reported to the police leading to Issah’s arrest.Source: GNA
