Workers of the ailing  Ghana  Railway Company  have  threatened to withdraw their service if government fails to increase salaries.

They have therefore given government  up to  July 21, 2014  to increase their pay or they will withdraw passenger train  services on  Accra-Nsawam and  Accra-Tema routes.

According to them government is insensitive to their plight thus delaying its promise to address their concerns.

They said they have run out of patience  with government and any failure on the part of government to fulfill those promises within the period, will result in workers withdrawing their service.

They also blamed government for failing to rescue the ailing company leading to detorliation of machinery, appalling working conditions of the workers as well as its dwindling fortunes.

The ultimatum was announced by Mr. Godwin Ntarmah,  local General Secretary of the Railway Workers Union at a news conference at the company’s office in Accra .  

The workers wore red arm bands amid chanting and singing of war songs to register their anger as some of them said the situation has made them hopeless in the face of their families.
